Hovering

on life choices

Leaves beneath the ice — photo, my own

Iced-over
leaves tremble, paused
layers forge, crystallized hovering
forming lines

Between life
and death, and I,
above, contemplate the swollen river
that pushes

Our currents
forward, lapping
beneath the barrier, holding onto
differences

Of tender
intentions pang,
an alternate end — before, then after
chance threw snake eyes
